The News Tribune Weekly!
Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter, where we bring you the stories, trends, and developments shaping the economic, digital, and crypto world. From market movements and Bitcoin trends to emerging ideas and industry shifts, here’s what caught our attention this week.
Without further ado, let’s move on to point 1!

Bitcoin Stays Above $83,000, but a Strong Bullish Trend May Take Time
Bitcoin is entering another week above $83,000, but its price stability does not necessarily signal the beginning of a strong rally. Some analysts believe the cryptocurrency is still in a phase where the market is building a foundation for its next major move rather than experiencing a clear upward trend.
Bitcoin’s On-Chain Data Signals a Slow Market
Although Bitcoin has recovered in price, on-chain indicators have yet to show significant strength. This suggests that the market could continue to move at a gradual pace, with price action falling short of what bullish investors might anticipate.
For now, Bitcoin’s recovery appears to lack the underlying momentum needed to support a lasting upward move. As a result, the cryptocurrency could spend more time consolidating before a stronger bullish direction becomes evident.
This means that while the current price level may look encouraging, a sustained rally could remain out of reach until on-chain activity shows clearer signs of improvement.
The Halving Cycle Adds an Interesting Twist
According to Bitcoin News, Bitcoin has now progressed through more than 62% of its current halving cycle.
In previous cycles, this stage has closely coincided with the lowest point of a bear market. However, the current cycle presents a different picture, as Bitcoin has already climbed more than 40% from its low.
This difference raises questions about how the current market cycle may develop compared with earlier ones. While the historical pattern offers a potentially positive signal, the cryptocurrency’s weak on-chain momentum suggests that a full recovery may not happen immediately.
What Could This Mean for Bitcoin?
Looking at both indicators together, Bitcoin may have already moved considerably away from its market low without establishing the conditions for a sustained rally.
Its position above $83,000 and the historical halving pattern provide reasons for optimism. However, the lack of strong on-chain momentum suggests that investors may need to be patient.
For now, Bitcoin could remain in a period of gradual price movement and consolidation while the market waits for stronger signals of a lasting bullish trend.
🌊 Ether ETFs Suffer $542M Weekly Loss as Solana Inflows Come to an End
Crypto investment funds faced renewed selling pressure last week, with Ether ETFs recording their biggest weekly withdrawals since January. Solana funds also lost ground after months of attracting fresh capital, while Bitcoin ETFs joined the wider retreat. Together, the three groups saw approximately $1.25 billion leave their funds in a single week.
📉 Ether ETFs Record Their Worst Week Since January
Ether ETFs lost $542.1 million in net capital last week, according to SoSoValue data. The decline followed a reversal on September 29, just one day after the funds had attracted $17.1 million.
Withdrawals have now continued for nine consecutive sessions, bringing the total outflow since September 29 to $697.2 million. Tuesday was particularly difficult, with $201.9 million leaving the funds in one day.
The latest weekly figure is the weakest since the week ending January 23, when withdrawals reached $611.2 million. The current streak also matches a nine-session run recorded in June. The longest remains 17 consecutive sessions, during which investors pulled $900.1 million from Ether ETFs between May 11 and June 3.
🏦 BlackRock’s ETHA Takes the Biggest Hit
Most of the selling pressure has fallen on BlackRock’s ETHA fund. It recorded $477 million in weekly outflows, representing approximately 88% of the total withdrawn from Ether ETFs.
Grayscale’s ETHE fund also experienced withdrawals, losing $31.9 million during the week. Meanwhile, ETHA’s net assets declined to $8.64 billion, against cumulative inflows of $12.79 billion since launch.
Across all Ether ETFs, assets under management dropped 10% to $15.71 billion. Cumulative net inflows since January also fell from $1.47 billion to $931.8 million, even as weekly trading volume climbed to $5.18 billion.
🔻 Solana ETFs End a 14-Week Winning Streak
Solana investment funds also struggled, recording withdrawals in all five trading sessions last week. Their combined outflows reached $24.8 million, almost three times the previous weekly record of $8.9 million.
Bitwise’s BSOL accounted for $20.9 million of the withdrawals, or around 84% of the total. The decline ended a 14-week streak of positive net flows that began after these products launched in October 2025.
Solana ETF assets fell to $1.73 billion from a September 25 peak of $1.96 billion. Bitcoin funds also lost their positive momentum, contributing to the roughly $1.25 billion withdrawn across the three crypto ETF categories.
The figures point to a broader cooling in investor demand, although future flows will show whether this is a temporary pullback or the start of a longer period of caution.

💸 Pump.fun Generates $18.6 Million as Memecoins Lose Ground
Pump.fun generated $18.64 million in protocol revenue over seven days, even as memecoins continue to suffer heavy losses. According to DefiLlama data published on October 9, the Solana-based token launch platform collected $60.7 million over 30 days. Its business model relies on transaction fees, allowing it to earn revenue whether traders buy or sell. Meanwhile, a Coin Metrics study found that 81% of 150 memecoins examined had lost at least 90% of their peak value. Pump.fun has also reported $478 million in cumulative PUMP token buybacks and burns.

📊 XRP ETFs Hold $1.7 Billion as Weekly Inflows Fall by 94%
XRP exchange-traded funds held nearly $1.7 billion in assets on October 6, but fresh investment has slowed sharply. Bitwise attracted about $10.55 million in one session, offsetting withdrawals from Franklin Templeton and Canary. XRP traded around $1.40, while derivatives generated almost five times the trading volume recorded on spot markets.

⚙️ Pi Network Sets October 16 for Protocol 28 as PI Remains Near Lows
Pi Network is preparing to activate Protocol 28 on its mainnet on October 16, following a deadline for node operators to upgrade to version 28.0 by October 13. The testnet has already been running the new version since September 25. The upgrade is designed to let validators vote on delayed transaction data without waiting for every node to receive all the information, improve group management of smart contracts, and strengthen controls over application data. Yet PI was trading at $0.0824 on October 7, down 97.2% from its all-time high of $2.99 in February 2025. The network had more than 29.09 million ledgers, but recent block activity remained modest, with no smart-contract operations among the last 200 transactions reviewed.

🔍 Ledger Probes Possible Hardware Tampering as Crypto Losses Near $93 Million
Ledger has confirmed that a hardware implant was found inside a device belonging to a user affected by recent crypto thefts in Southeast Asia. The discovery strengthens suspicions that some wallets sold by regional reseller CryptoBilis may have been modified before reaching customers. Independent analysts estimate the losses at around $92.9 million to $93.4 million across hundreds of addresses, although Ledger has not verified those totals. The suspected implant may have been able to intercept a wallet’s 24-word recovery phrase during setup. CryptoBilis has suspended hardware wallet sales while the investigation continues. Ledger says there is currently no evidence that its own systems or infrastructure were compromised.

🔄 Bitcoin Rebounds After a 7.59% Drop, but Key Levels Remain in Focus
Bitcoin fell 7.59% between October 5 and 8, sliding from a recent high near $87,000 to $80,393 before recovering to around $82,800. The rebound has not yet confirmed that the correction is over. Derivatives indicators, including funding rates and open interest, have weakened, while spot ETF flows and reduced long positions have added pressure. A market stress index that peaked at 49.9 on October 7 subsequently fell to 7, suggesting that immediate selling pressure has eased. Traders are watching $83,600 as a potential signal that the correction is ending, while a renewed decline could bring Bitcoin toward $77,700.

🇫🇷 France Moves Toward Taxing Crypto-to-Stablecoin Conversions
French lawmakers have approved several proposed changes to crypto taxation in the National Assembly’s Finance Committee as part of the 2027 budget review. One amendment would make conversions from crypto-assets into stablecoins taxable from January 1, 2027, potentially ending the current treatment under which investors can defer capital gains tax by remaining in stablecoins rather than converting into euros. Another proposal would extend the exit tax to unrealized crypto gains exceeding €800,000 for certain taxpayers moving abroad. A third amendment would allow investors to carry forward crypto losses for up to ten years. The proposals still need to be debated in the National Assembly’s public session, scheduled to begin on October 13, before any changes become law.

⚡Solana Pulls Ahead of Ethereum as dApp Revenue Reaches $38.2 Million
Solana generated $38.2 million in decentralized application revenue over seven days, more than three times Ethereum’s $11.7 million, according to Token Terminal data published on October 10. Hyperliquid ranked second with $14.8 million. Even when Ethereum is considered alongside Base, Polygon and OP Mainnet, their combined revenue reached $21.2 million, still below Solana’s total. The network had also led monthly dApp revenue in August, generating $143 million, or 38% of the on-chain total tracked by DefiLlama. Trading applications account for a significant share of Solana’s activity, but revenue alone does not measure user numbers, liquidity or the value locked in applications. The next comparison point is the end of October.
